I love doing these link up parties with everyone. This makes blogging so much more fun!
[what we’re eating this week]
Sometimes The Hubster and I forget that we aren’t in college or our early twenties and we decide to eat like we did 10 years ago. This is incredibly unhealthy and not good for us, but we can’t seem to help ourselves. Case in point – our next door neighbor is selling these Little Caesar microwave pizzas as a school fundraiser. We bought way too many (and by way too many I mean 60 little pizzas) and generally that’s our go to meal. But that has got to stop.
So we’re trying to make healthier choices and eat better. I got a lot of fresh veggies at the Farmer’s Market last weekend and so we’ve had cucumber salad and I think I’ll make a bean salad for dinner tonight. And there’s some chicken marinating in my fridge today too!
Of course, we’ll start all that healthy eating after this amazing food truck leaves the work parking lot.
[what i’m reminiscing about]
Since we spent the weekend in Buffalo, The Hubster and I can’t stop thinking about the days we used to spend on the boat. It was our favorite way to relax and spend time together. We’re currently looking through the budget to see how we could make a boat happen in our lives, but I’m not sure how that’s going to work. Mainly because the cost of the sailboat isn’t the issue, it’s the cost of the truck/large SUV required to tow said boat.
[what i’m loving]
It’s a well documented fact that I’m addicted to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’m so pumped that my stuff is finally arriving (and that the Hubster is working late so he won’t see the mountain of boxes at the front door every day). These booties are adorable and super comfy. I can’t wait for Fall and all the cute outfits I can wear them with.
Note – These booties are true to size (I’m a 6.5) and slightly hard to get on. Mine are the charcoal suede color.
[what we’ve been up to]
I just had the most expensive chicken salad for lunch and it was from Wendy’s.
Let me explain.
Yesterday, The Hubster was busy working through lunch, so I volunteered to grab some lunch for us. And since Wendy’s has their summer berry salad out, I thought that would be the perfect thing for us. It’s healthy and light. Win. So off I drove to Wendy’s.
While driving around the parking lot to get in line for the drive-through, I slowed down to let a car back out of its parking spot, and BAM! the car next to me backed up without looking.
Thankfully no one was hurt. I wish I could say it’s not that bad, but you can’t open the door and the door is now bent at a weird angle so the top part by the window isn’t closed all the way. So The Hubster had to duct tape the window so water doesn’t get in. And he added some decorations. lol
Poor Greta the Jetta. She’s due to go to the car hospital on Thursday.
[what i’m dreading]
As an American, one of our greatest rights is the right to vote. And on Election Day in November, I am someone that exercises that right. I don’t want to become political, but can I say I’m dreading the political ads and the name calling that we’re going to endure for the next few months. I know who I’m going to be voting for in November, but to be honest, the nastiness between both parties is just downright awful. I can’t wait for this election to be over and our country start to put itself back together.
[what i’m working on]
Working on getting my blog to look more like me. Does anyone have advice on how to get the widgets at the side? I’m going to see if my friend Google can help.
[what i’m excited about]
I used to have this hanging canvas shelving unit in my closet where I would store all of my t-shirts, pajama pants, shorts, junky clothes. Pictured above on the left. I didn’t realize how much stuff was in there and that if you just keep shoving, it would weaken the hanger. Last week during one of my shoves, the whole thing fell down. The Hubster laughed and said that I should either (a) know better because this has happened before or (b) throw out/donate some clothes. Yeah. Right. You never know when I’ll need all my Christmas pajama pants. And if that t-shirt from college still fits, then I’m not throwing it out.
Being the shopper that I am, I scoured the internet for something that would work better than canvas shelves and found these from Target. They’re wood-like and will fit all my pajamas, lounge pants, and t-shirts perfectly. I also found the crate, which on top of being adorable, will be the perfect home for my scarves. I’ll just roll them up and they’ll look colorful and adorable. Can’t wait to see the finished product. I have plans to put the whole kit-n-kaboodle together this week.
[what i’m watching/reading]
I just saw a trailer for this movie and it looked amazing. So I hopped on Amazon and bought the book. I have high hopes of starting it this weekend.
It was my pick for book club this month and since I’ve loved every single one of Emily Giffin’s books, I thought this would be the perfect read. Especially because we all needed something a little bit lighter than Wuthering Heights. Or at least for me, something less intense than the movie Wuthering Heights. haha
Is there anyone out there not watching JoJo? I’m a little behind and haven’t watched this week yet, but I can’t wait to see who she picks. I feel like she’s really attracted to Jordan, but is he really her best husband option? I do like Robbie. And Chase is adorable. And Luke seems like a good guy. Wow. I have a *lot* of time invested.
The Hubster and I started watching Royal Pains on Netflix one night and we are hooked. The show is filmed all over Long Island and one of their regular filming spots is where we used to work. I remember the street being shut down because Royal Pains was filming. I never saw any of the actors, but it was always on my list to watch. Now we love it! It’s fun to see all the places we used to go and one of my friends’ car made it into a scene. haha Her car is famous! We’re already on Season 7 and I hear they stopped after Season 8. So sad.
[what i’m listening to]
Who doesn’t love a little JT? I’ve seen him in concert BTW and he does not disappoint.
I’m loving this song, too. I know there’s a ton of controversy out now about Taylor Swift and how she wrote this song and isn’t friends with Calvin Harris after their breakup. But tell me, how many of you are really and truly friends with your ex? My list is zero. It’s not always realistic and just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you have to be friends.
Also, yes, I’m #TeamTaylor. All the haters can just go hate somewhere else. Because it’s not okay to call someone “that b*****.” It’s just not cool. And kids are listening to that. Girls think it’s okay for guys to call them that. And guys think it’s what you call your girlfriend/wife/flavor of the month. Have some respect for yourself and humanity. #endsoapbox
[what i’m wearing]
- Shirt: Trouve V-Neck Mixed Media Tank – Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (black is sold out but the brown spice and white are left in limited sizing only)
- Tank – Two-Way Seamless Camisole – Nordstrom – The back of the shirt is a little sheer and I didn’t feel comfortable going to work without something underneath it.
- Pants: Skinny Dress Pants – The Limited (I’ve had mine forever, but here is a similar pair)
- Shoes: Mini-Miller Open Toe Wedge – Tory Burch (I bought these a few years ago, but here is a similar pair that is on sale!!)
- Necklaces – I got both of mine as gifts, one from The Hubster and one from my sweet neighbor for watering her flowers while they were on vacation. Here’s a similar one to my longer one from Ann Taylor.
Please be kind – I am not good at taking an outfit selfie. I think it’s time I bought a selfie stick.
- Dress – I bought it on clearance at Vineyard Vines a few years ago. This dress has the same nautical feel.
- Shoes – I bought them a few years ago at Macy’s but Amazon has cute ones that are similar. I snapped these up when I couldn’t find navy shoes anywhere but now they are quite popular.
I’m working on getting more and more outfits to post. Sadly I think a lot of them are mixing from what I already have, but I’ll do my best to find something similar (or on sale!).
[what i’m doing this weekend]
We haven’t been home on a weekend in for-ev-ver. So I’m really looking forward to making s’mores and enjoying our firepit.
[what i’m looking forward to next month]
Once upon a time there was a boy and a girl, The Hubster and The Pink Shoe Girl, and they were going on a first date at the Erie County Fair. Since they hadn’t met each other yet, they were both very nervous. The Pink Shoe Girl’s mom told her to just go on the date and that she didn’t have to marry him, just meet him. Well, lo and behold, seven years later, the two got married. And lived happily ever after.
Yes, the above story is true. The Hubster and I met on a blind date at the Erie County Fair. So we go every year (or as often as we can – we’ve skipped the last few) and celebrate an “anniversary” of sorts.
Really now we joke that it’s the anniversary of the times that The Hubster didn’t propose to me. I got really excited one year because he was acting weird and nervous and we were standing in the same place that we did every year. He was also rambling on about how long it had been since we started dating. And I got so excited that I floated out of my body and hovered above with excitement. Then he turned away from me and said, “let’s eat, I’m starving.” And all my hopes were popped like the carnival balloons. (I might have been quite grouchy the rest of the night too.)
The Fair is always fun. We eat a crazy amount of terrible food. Spend a lot of money playing carnival games. Spend an even greater amount of time trying not to throw up on the rides. And I buy a lot of fun new gadgets…rubber broom or ceramic tile cutter anyone?
[what else is new]
We’re boring these days But I am pretty happy I managed to mow the lawn by myself without blowing grass *all* over the new mulch. It’s just on *some* of the new mulch. Also, I didn’t run over any of the new plants we put in and none of the new bricks are missing or moved around. Just don’t look behind the shed. I have no idea how to get the tractor back there. hehe
[bonus: what was your favorite part of summer]
I don’t know about you, but the best part about summer is the ICE CREAM! It’s always so hot and the best way to cool down is to get a frozen treat! I always get a small vanilla cone dipped in chocolate. Yum! Maybe we’ll get some tonight on the way home!
