I turn 39 today and thought it would be a good time to share 39 things about me.
– When I have a bad day at work, I look at how much it costs to live in Maui and if I would be happy bartending/waitressing. FYI – I think if I stopped buying so many shoes, I could make it happen.
– I am terrified of birds. All kinds of birds. Chickens, sparrows, ostriches, parrots.
– I love cheese. Give me cheddar, muenster, havarti, goat, parmesan, asiago. I could eat cheese all day, every day.
– I grew up playing rummy and whenever I play it, I get all kinds of good memories of playing with my grandparents and my mom.
– I want a puppy so badly to come live with us, but I’m also a tiny bit scared I’m idealizing living with a puppy. Or a dog of any kind. But I do want one badly.
– Growing up, I was the neighborhood babysitter, pet sitter, house watcher. When anyone went on vacation, I would get their mail, water their plants, and mow their yards. I walked all kinds of dogs, including a lab that weighed more than me and dragged me down the street when she saw a squirrel. Road rash is a real thing.
– I rotate the couch cushions to different spots to avoid the ones in the middle getting to squished down. The first time I did this, The Hubster looked at me like I had 2 heads. And then he realized he was sitting on a fluffy cushion and now helps me rotate them every few months.
– I put my left sock on before my right sock. But I usually put on my right shoe before my left shoe.
– I can type about 85 words a minute. I can get up to 90 if I’m super concentrating on it.
– If I find something I like (earrings, jeans, pajama pants, leggings), I buy it in all the colors.
– I didn’t drink coffee until about 7 years ago. Now I drink a cup almost every morning. (If we’re being honest, it’s mostly creamer and sugar.)
– My go to karaoke song is Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.
– I am totally comfortable mowing the lawn with either a ride on mower or push mower. But I don’t ever use the trimmer. I make The Hubster do that part.
– In 6th grade, I fell down the stairs in the hallway at school. My school uniform skirt flew up and I flashed my underwear at one of the cute boys. I was so embarressed.
– I work best with background noise like music or an old tv show or movie.
– I tried a puff of my first cigarette when I was 31 and it was after multiple shots of tequila. I became violently ill immediately after and I’ve never tried to smoke since.
– Up until very recently, I avoided tequila because it turned into bad decision making. (See 16) Although in the last few years, I’ve been able to drink a margarita without dire consequences.
– I used to watch Jon & Kate Plus 8 because I thought that’s what my future kids would look like.
– I get really nervous to fly on super small airplanes. It’s The Hubster’s dream to get his pilot license and fly a Cessna. We’re really unsure how we’ll get through this stalemate. Maybe I should start drinking tequila shots again.
– I don’t wear shoes inside the house. I rarely wear socks inside the house. I’m barefoot or with slippers 95% of the time.
– The Hubster’s snoring sometimes wakes me up. When that happens, I am irrationally angry. I know he can’t help it. I wear ear plugs now.
– I wear slippers every single day from November through April.
– I do not wear socks or anything on my feet from May through October.
– When I was a little kid, I wanted to be the professions that I saw daily – mailman, bus driver, or teacher. My parents just went with it and said I could be any of those things. But when I told my favorite bus driver (I had him from like 2nd grade through high school) I wanted to be a bus driver in 3rd grade, he told me I was super smart and I could do anything I wanted like a doctor or something better than what he did. That was the first time someone told me I could do anything I wanted. Looking back, I feel sad that he didn’t think he was in a good profession. There’s no way I could be a bus driver now. That kind of responsibility is WAAAY out of my comfort zone.
– In high school, I decided I wanted to go into Sports Management. I talked to someone in the profession who told me to get my undergrad degree in Accounting and then go to grad school to get my MBA in Sports Management. I realized I was good at Accounting in college and decided that I could make a good living doing accounting.
– My regular job is so far away from doing accounting every day. But I do love my job.
– I eat cereal with milk really fast so the cereal doesn’t get soggy. Except for Frosted Mini Wheats. I eat those slowly because the soggy ones are my favorite.
– I can’t watch Law & Order SVU before bed or else I’ll have weird dreams.
– The Hubster, our best married couple friends, and I are on a group text chat where we basically send each other inappropriate memes and make 5th grader jokes. It’s the highlight of all of our days.
– I love throwing surprise parties but felt really uncomfortable when The Hubster threw me one for my 30th birthday. I don’t like being the center of attention like that. I can give a speech in front of people no problem, but surprise parties and I’m a total weirdo.
– My sister-in-law took me for my first pedicure when I was 26. What the heck took me so long to try it?!?!
– I went to a small, private Catholic school for K-8 with the same 20 kids the whole time. One of the kids in my class actually went to school with me from Kindergarten through college. Like I never went to school without Josh. He still lives in my hometown and it’s always fun to see him and catch up.
– I have tried to watch Outlander a few times. I just can’t get past the first 8 episodes.
– I enjoy driving my car, but if someone were to chauffeur me around for the rest of my life, I would be thrilled.
– I purposefully wear bright colors to accounting events knowing all the other suits there will be in black or navy. I used to try to fit in and wear navy or black. But I don’t care anymore. I get the side eye regularly now.
– Sitting on the couch with The Hubster watching one of our shows is my favorite place to be.
– I used to think Nordstrom was so expensive and I could never afford anything in there. I’m so glad I realized that regular people can shop there too.
– Strawberries are my favorite fruit.
– This blog has brought me more joy and fun than I could have ever imagined. Thank you for stopping in every day. I truly appreciate all of you.
