My Dad

I’m back today with some really heartbreaking news from my family. My dad, Mark, passed away on July 17.

I had told you we weren’t sure what was going on with him and we really didn’t know until the very end.

For the last 6ish weeks, we were under the impression that he had pancreatic cancer and some of the symptoms he was having (blood clots, unknown internal bleeding, extreme fatigue) were being treated on an individual basis.

What we didn’t know was that he was actually misdiagnosed and was in the perfect storm of cancer symptoms.

Dad actually had Stage IV stomach cancer (a very aggressive kind) that had spread to his liver through the bloodstream. The cancer in his blood was forming clots that were in his legs, lungs, heart, and brain. The stomach tumor was also the cause of his internal bleeding.

Due to all over those things, he had multiple heart attacks and strokes over the course of a few days and everything the doctors would have tried to do would have made the other things worse.

We take comfort in the fact that he didn’t suffer and that we were able to be with him for his last few days.

My dad was my biggest supporter, best advice giver, teacher of all things sports and business, and one of the best people I’ve ever known. He had so much faith, even up to the very end, and wasn’t scared. It was an absolute privilege to be able to spend time with him during his last days with us. A rare gift.

I will miss my dad every single day for the rest of my life. I miss him more than I could have ever imagined and wish I could have just one conversation, one more hug.

The outpouring of love from our family and friends has been more than we could have ever imagined. My dad was so loved by so many people and we have felt that from everywhere.

Thank you for sticking with me through this crazy time in my life. The Hubster and I took some time off and we’re now starting to get back to regular life.

I’ll be back here more often than I had been. There’s lots going on and I can’t wait to get back to sharing life with you guys.

xoxo, Sarah
